2014 Annual Conference
NAMI NJ Expands Horizons at the 2014 Annual Conference. Thank you for joining us!
Energizing drumming exercise led by Mike Veny
With 246 enthusiastic attendees, 8 workshops, 26 exhibitors, cutting edge research presentations and a funny, touching and energizing keynote presentation, the 2014 NAMI New Jersey Annual Conference: Expanding Horizons, held Saturday, December 6, was a great success! Families, peers and providers connected, mental health advocates were motivated, and most importantly, all felt hopeful that a better future was visible on the horizon.
Mike Veny, Founder of Transforming Stigma and professional drummer, drummed up a storm of emotions, humor and hope with attendees enthusiastically joining in, while plenary speakers Dr. Steven Silverstein and Dr. Steven Sonhle skillfully provided clarity on cognitive issues that often accompany mental illness. Dr. Michelle Burns presented cutting edge research on how new technologies can be an integral part of self care. Workshops topics ranged from growing grassroots advocacy to trauma, from respite care to employment, and generated enthusiastic comments from attendees.
NAMI New Jersey thanks our affiliates, sponsors, exhibitors, board members, volunteers and all the attendees who traveled from north, south and central regions to make this such a well attended event. Special thanks to our accomplished, knowledgeable speakers for sharing their expertise. We wish all of you happy holidays and invite you to join us for upcoming events in 2015 including the NAMI New Jersey Walk on May 16 and the Annual Meeting on June 13.
