US APPEALS PANEL UPHOLDS BLOCK OF MEDICAID WORK REQUIREMENTS

A federal appeals court panel in Washington upheld a lower court’s decision on Friday that blocked the Trump administration’s work requirements for Medicaid recipients. The court found that it is “indisputably correct that the principal objective of Medicaid is providing health care coverage” and that work requirements for “able-bodied” people lack specific legal authorization.

OFFICIALS CALL FOR MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY TO CLOSE AFTER ONE OF ITS RESIDENTS KILLED ON N.J. HIGHWAY

The man fatally struck by two cars in Manalapan was a resident of a nearby group home that town leaders have repeatedly sought to have closed over safety concerns and filthy living conditions, officials confirmed. Police Chief Michael Fountain confirmed the man lived at a nearby facility known as Manalapan Manor, licensed as a residential healthcare facility. His name has not yet been released by police.

TWO NEW LAWSUITS ACCUSE HUDSON COUNTY JAIL OF MEDICAL NEGLECT

Two new lawsuits, filed within two weeks of each other, accuse Hudson County jail staff and contractors of inadequate medical care, allegedly leading to the suicide of one inmate and permanent scarring and joint damage for the other.

“While in the custody of the defendants, she received no treatment for her mental illness, despite the facts that the defendants knew about her prior suicide attempt within the past three months, knew of her history of mental illness, knew of her two prior in-patient hospitalizations for her mental illness, and knew of her prior suicidal thoughts,” the complaint says.

MURPHY ADMINISTRATION ANNOUNCES AFFORDABLE HOUSING TRUST FUND ALLOCATION PLAN

The Murphy Administration today announced a roadmap for spending $60 million in Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) funding to advance affordable housing across the state. The funding, which was diverted in previous years, was restored as part of Governor Murphy’s FY2020 budget and is now available for pre-applications.
